So it all breaks down to this…ġ Line with 30 Trait Points = 220 different combinationsġ Line with 20 Trait Points = 66 different combinationsġ Line with 10 Trait Points = 12 different combinationsĥ points will be excluded from the equation since it yields no choices and multiply by 0 wont work for this.Īll right that wasn’t too bad, everyone with me so far? That’s a lot of possible combinations but we have 70 points to work with here throughout 5 different trait lines, so we can take this one step farther and see at level 80 how many possible combinations you can come up with. Ok, I lied it wasn’t that hard, anyways moving on. Now taking that down another step to 10 points into the trait line is the hardest of all. When you add this all up you get 66, which is the number of possible combinations you can have for the 2 choices out of 12. A has 11, B has 10, C has 9, D has 8, etc all the way to K = 1. Once you do all of A and then start on B you notice a pattern. This is a little easier to map out in excel, so I took the time to check just to make sure my methods were correct and sure enough there were 66 possibilities that did not have repetition and the order didn’t matter. So now there are only 66 possible combinations to choose from stepping down from 3 choices to 2. So if you were to map this out in excel you would need 220 lines to write things like… That is a lot of possible choices just for one trait line. Remember order does not matter and it throws out any repetition which is exactly what we want. So this means with 12 abilities to choose from and you are allowed to choose 3 when you have 30 points in a trait line, there are 220 different possible combinations. So in the case where you have all 30 trait points in one line you have 12 abilities to choose from and you are allowed to select 3 different ones. So n is the number of choices you have to choose from, and r is the number that you are allowed to choose. Now here is the combination formula where order and repetition don’t matter: So with 12 abilities to choose from they can be represented as such: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L. Now I want it to disregard repetition because you cannot select the same trait ability twice, and the order doesn’t matter because it’s the same build no matter how you put the traits in your trait line. So the formula is a simple combination formula which disregards any repetition (AAA wont work) and the order of the choices does not matter (ABC is the same thing as CBA). I was decent at math in school, but mainly I have just been curious for a few weeks at how many builds there could potentially be in the game.

Now I am no mathematician, nor do I spend my free hours doing math problems on a normal basis.

While I cannot give you the number of viable trait builds we will see in the game, I can give you the number for how many possible combinations of major traits you can make at level 80 with the full 70 points to spend. 5 trait lines, 70 points, 30 possible to max out one line, 12 abilities to choose from, major traits at 10, 20 and 30 points.

Including all of this means a 26 months of farming GET1 for these characters and not buying gear from the GET1 shop.So I’ve been enjoying the Tales of Tyria podcast recently and a lot of times the group will question how many viable builds GW2 will have with the current knowledge we have. We also need 89,100 GET1 for Wampa and 89,100 for Hyoda, now that would be around 7 and half months of hording GET1 per charact.

We need 70,300 GET1 for Malak, 70,300 GET1 for GAS which is roughly 6 and half months of hording GET1 and not getting single gear for each of those characters. I myself in a guild that is doing to 3p to 31 star per dark side geo TB which gives us 6,200 GET1 per month, we get 13 star in light side geo TB which gives us 4,600 GET1, and usually its 50% win ration in TW that lands us around 1,800 GET1 per month, that brings our total income of GET1 to a 12,200 GET1.
